"Only you can see me Jeff... only you..." - Marty Hopkirk
Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk are best friends and business partners in a small private-investigations office based in London. But while working on a murder case, Marty is killed in a supposed hit-and-run car accident outside his home. Jeff and Marty’s fiancée, Jeannie, are both devastated - but Jeff is even more astonished when he is visited by Marty’s ghost! Marty has decided to stay behind on Earth to help Jeff track down his murderer. However, when the case is closed, Marty realises that he has stayed too long, and will not be able to return to his grave for a hundred years.
The original series of ‘Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)’ transmitted in 1969, and ran for twenty-six episodes. Then, 2000, it was brought back by the BBC, starring comic duo Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, and written and produced by Charlie Higson of ‘The Fast Show’ (who seems to have just one too many cameos in the show...). These new stories maintained the spirit (!) of the original series, whilst giving it a new spin by introducing the character of Wyvern, Marty’s ghostly mentor, played by television god Tom Baker. This new series ran for thirteen episodes across two seasons, and its fans are hoping for more adventures to come…
